I have seen people’s face having a mix of 75% of excitement and 25% of anxiety while planning to buy their new car. If you see the market it has plenty of equally good options in almost same price. Recently I did a small research over economical hatchbacks for my friend to choose his one. I would like to share the comparative reviews of India’s three most looked cars Hyundai i10, Maruti Suzuki Ritz and swift.

Dimensions:
From above spec it is clear that Maruti Suzuki Ritz and Swift both are bigger and spacious than Hyundai i10. Actually i10 is built in the same platform of Santro. Ritz and Swift are from common platform, and dimensions are almost same. But the difference is Swift is lean-mean machine and Ritz is a tall-boy model.
Exterior Design & Style:
Generally it is the first criteria of selection. All three cars have got their own looks. Personally I like the i10′s design and colors. i10 looks more playful and Ritz and Swift are mature.
Ritz rear and boomerang shape tail lamp is something different and new from others cars in India.

Interior Design and Appeal:
Beige color i10 interior looks neat and clean and interior is well optimized for utility. i10 Sportz and Asta comes with in-built stereo system.
i10 Dashboard
Ritz Zxi comes with dual color (blue and grey) dashboard, with stylish tachometer tucked in. Both Lxi and Vxi are available in single color dashboard but Lxi comes without tachometer. Also there is a Small pocket above the AC vents.
Swift’s dark grey color interior looks rich, simple, neat and clean. Enough no. of cupholders and pockets.
i10 has a very nicely carved cup-holder and other pockets.
Less no’s of cup-holders and pocket is negative in Ritz. Additionally It has a tray below the co-passenger’s seat.
Swift cup-holder
Back seat Comfort:
Wider Swift and Ritz have enough seat width to accommodate three people on the back side comfortably, but three butts on i10′s back seat could be slightly uncomfortable. Swift has better leg room than Ritz & i10.

Boots Space: All three cars have almost same boot-space depth but Swift and Ritz are slightly wider.

Performance:
i10′s 1.2 ltr Kappa engine delivering 80ps is surplus for this size of car, but among these trio Ritz’s 1.2 ltr k-series engine is best performer. It offers more power with better fuel efficiency for bigger body (plz look at vital stats). You will feel better pull in Ritz than i10, It is because of perfect gear ratio. >
No doubt Swift’s 1.3 ltr multipoint injection engine is most powerful within, which makes swift more fun to drive

, you need to compromise a bit with fuel efficiency.
I am really impressed with the i10′s gear system, it works with small touch of your finger. Overall I found Hyundai gears shifts are better than their counter-parts in Maruti Suzuki, though there is a very slight difference.
Driving Comfort:
i10 is good for an average height person, compact leg room is not very conformable for Taller ones specially during long drive. Swift and Ritz both offer better driver’s leg space. Ritz’s tall boy model and Swift is like lean- mean machine.
Swift and Ritz feel better on rough terrain than i10, because of their long shockers and larger wheelbase.
Price:
On road similar versions of i10 is about 20k-30k lesser than Ritz and 40K-50k lesser than Swift including all the necessary accessories.
Others:
- Swift Zxi top end model comes with Climatic control AC which is not available in any of other two.
- All Variations of i10 come with tilt steering that is available in Ritz Zxi and not in Swift.
It’s always good to know other consumer’s opinion too by searching from following places

I am 6″2′ tall so
would it be wise enough for me to buy swift or should I go for ritz
August 27th, 2010 at 8:04 pm
@kabir, Swift and Ritz both should be comfortable for your height, both machines are made in same platform. Ritz is tall-boy model more comfortable for city drive (traffic) and Swift is leaner, which is good for suits to your long drive requirement. Take a test drive to make a decision.

@ Milind … Its my pleasure you liked my blog.. Thanks for you comment.

@ Rajat: Swift and i10 both are good for your height, no issue in driving comfort. Both are equally good for city drive though i10′s compact size is an advantage in parking and manoeuvrings. But in long drive Swift stands better. Swift’s passenger seat is wider, more comfortable and spacious. If money is not constraint then I would recommend Swift.

Dear Abhishek,
im planning to buy a mid class car.my budget is around 4.5 lacks.im confused b/w wagon r and i10.will u suggest a good one by considering all facts including low maintenance, good FE,high resale value ?
January 4th, 2011 at 3:07 pm
@Ashish, Both of the cars are good, you need to look at your needs in detail to decide. WagonR is more cost effective in running and has good boot space, but i10 (1.1ltr) is more comfy on driver’s seat and passenger seat specially on long drive, i10 (1.2ltr) is more powerful. You can think of Ritz Lxi, Beat and Ford figo in around your budget. If you can exceed your budget a bit I would recommend to have a look at Ritz Lxi.

I am confused in Diesel or Petrol……………Suggest me Ritz, Swift, Figo
March 16th, 2012 at 11:50 am
@ Akhil, your requirement is not clear for the selection of Diesel vs Petrol. Pls go thru petrol and diesel comparison in http://rightindicator.com/diesel-car-vs-petrol-car/ see the comment section as well, lots of queries about the selection. If your yearly run is below 20,000 kms then stick to petrol version.
Figo review you can find in http://rightindicator.com/ford-figo-reviews/ .Older Swift and Ritz were almost same vehicle except exterior design and few other small thing. But new Swift is better in fuel efficiency size, features, confort and design but at the same time more expensive. So see your budget and requirement, decide accordingly.

Hi,
I am confused between ritz (lxi) and i10 (1.2 kappa). Which is more FE. My height is 5.11. Please suggest me.
March 25th, 2012 at 9:45 pm
I want to install CNG. do you see any issue with CNG on engine perfomance of i10.
March 29th, 2012 at 3:57 pm
@ Ashwani From Fuel efficiency point of view Ritz k-series is slight over-performer than kappa i10. Also Ritz is more roomie than i10 and hence pricier too. Both of the cars provide good comfort for your height. i10 is better in interior quality and features.
March 29th, 2012 at 4:02 pm
@ Ashwani, Installing CNG from outside violates engine warranty. I would never recommend it to install it in new car, taking risk after two yrs is still OK. I would recommend you to go for car with company fitted CNG like WagonR or Santro etc.
May 14th, 2012 at 1:08 pm
i am so confuced to purchas a car between ritz(lxi),swift(lxi)&wagoneR
May 14th, 2012 at 10:57 pm
@soni, new swift is definitely a viable option among all of three, But you look at your requirement first, which is not clear !!! Swift/Ritz boot space is a problem where Wagon R provide surplus boot space and looks more airy inside, though its one segment down from the Ritz and swift, but not so conformable for long drive, rear seat is cramp. On the other hand if you are looking for the better performance and conformable drive, style then swift/ritz. Fuel economy of wagonR is better also comes with an option of CNG/LPG.
